PLEASE help me, ANYONE! I have been using Microsoft applications and suites since 1985, and I am royally chapped [read: PISSED!!! (American, not British meaning)] at Microsoft with their MSO 2007 rollout. Sure, it looks very pretty, but it makes a seasoned documentation and application expert (23 years of experience!!!) feel like an IDIOT when he wants to insert page numbers...which is what I'd like help with for right now:

• What I want is to place numering in a header or footer. The "old" menus and options are gone; they have been castrated, supposedly rendered impotent. Funny, Office 2007 is the application that can't get it up. I follow directions, and instead of getting Page 4 of 398, what I get is Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}.
• The weird part is that when I copy and paste that within the document, it stays crap. When I copy it from the document and paste it in this kind of web-based text box, THEN it appears correctly, as numbers without that bracketed garbage. Can anyone tell me, in Office 2007, how do I get Word to hide the formatting code and show what it's supposed to?

••• NOTE: There is no help available for this specific bug at Microsoft. I looked. •••
