You will not be able to double click the icon and have it open up for you. But when you need to, you can import that data file and Outlook will be able to read it fine, and your emails are in that PST file.

Okay I am using Outlook 2003 right now; it may be a little bit different for your version. I went to Tools-Options-Mail Setup-Data Files-then I can view my personal folders, and then hit settings. Although I can see where they are stored on my computer, I cannot specfity what location I want them. Anyway, try that and see if you can do it, I will try Outlook version 6 within the next hour or so and tell you how to do it in that version also.

Think of like this, when you save a document to your PC you can choose where you want to save it at. Just like this, you can choose where you want to save it at. I have a folder in my documents called Outlook, and my local folders and other Outlook data is in that folder called Outlook, I just backup that folder and that is it. Provided this will work with Outlook 98, I know it can with Outlook 6. Let me see if I can find out how to do it again, it has been a lont time ago when I last did it.

Oh I see, well I don’t know if Outlook 98 can do this, but if you want you can have Outlook store all of its information in a certain place. So lets say you want to move your Outlook folder where everything is stored into My documents. SO it makes a folder in my documents, and then you can burn that folder to a cd, and if something should happen, you can just take that folder you made on the cd, and then import that folder back into Outlook and everything will be there. It’s a lot better and easier on you, and you do not have to export anything. Just simply move the data file and copy that data file. It should work, would you like to try that instead?

im trying to export to a folder in my documents. i did use the option of "tab seperated values" and it put them in a readable format. the purpose of trying to this is to get some of the information out of outlook and get it to a disc before some tragic happens.

I still am not quite sure of where you are trying to export them too, but if you are moving emails within your inbox to the Local folders all you have to do is move the email to that folder instead of trying to export it to that folder.

im trying to move files and emails created and stored in outlook 98. these files and emails are placed in the shortcut section under inbox and drafts. i have tried to export these, but my best option is to export as an excel document. the problem with is that it is so jumbled in excel that i cant tell what the subject and body of the message is. i also tried some of the other options without much luck. i want to do this so i can then burn them to a disc. im running windows xp and outlook 98. any suggestions? thanks.
