I asked you about any software and you said you had some, but did not work, can you remember any error messages you got? If you go to device manager then click on USB controllers you should see under that branch USB 2.0 or USB high speed, if you do not see it then you most likely do not have USB 2.0 And you have a PCI USB 2.0 card in the Desktop?

no as allready explained the pci card usb2.0 is slower than the usb1.1 in the laptop. glenn

hi yes the when i put the disc in it just came up with a load of html in a windows explorer window there are directories on th disc as i checked thanks glenn

If you use a compatible USB 2,0 device, and plug it in USB, then it will work, but you will not get USB 2.0 transfer rate. Can you remember why the software did not work?

dont think my laptop has usb2 as when i connect external drive it promts me with a ballon saying would be better in usb2 its a pakardbell igo 2000 series i think just befor usb2. a disk did com with card but didn't work i did search and load updated drivers but didn't make any diff??

The reason I asked was I thought you placed a floppy disk in what I thought was a floppy disk drive. Yea you have to format any new drive expect optical ones, to be able to save data on them. The laptop you do have does have USB2.0 capabilities, and were there any drivers or software to install for the USB 2.0?

no its an external hard drive in hi speed usb box. I have now got it working by updating the bios on my laptop but and a big but. I tested it copying data and was to my amazment 4 times slower in new usb2 card than the orig usb in my laptop??????? Why???

Got a pci usb 2.0 and firewire for my laptop running xp. I have externall drive which works plugged into usb1.1 port but when i plug into usb2 it says do i want to format drive!!!??? its an ali chip i think if anyone noes of better driver?
