Lets try this, go to start-control panel, display, then settings and where it says colors, all the colors that are displayed is just 16, and 256? Yes, this can be fixed but it may take more steps, don’t give up!

Thanks Sue, I was able to download all those drivers for display. But my computer said that Windows was already using the best driver for my device. Funny how the best driver can not have all the colors.. I'm at a loss now. I thought surely one of those drivers from hp would work. My model # was there and all.. Thanks for the help.. Josh, I don't know if this can be fixed or not now...

Good stuff Sue, I would not get Server, because that is for a Server not a desktop as you have. Upgrading to Windows 2000, will most likely not fix the display problem. This is why, the Operating knows that the video card is there, when the system first turns on, it will scan and look for any non plug and play devices, that you have, then it will scan for plug and play devices, then Windows will load. The system does know that the device is there, but the system does not have the software needed to fully use that device. That is why every device needs a driver, so that the system can fully use that device. Now some devices are picked up by the Operating system, but it is always best to install the drivers that came with the device. Now in your case the system does not have any drivers for that video card, so no matter what Operating system you have, it will most not likely install. Try what Sue said, and if that does not work, then we can try to change your current driver to a Super VGA, to see if you can get 16 million colors.

When you download from any site please select "SAVE" and not "RUN". Then save the file where you can find it later....not on the desktop but in a folder...eg, C:\TEMP
Then you can use winzip to unzip it to the same folder or if it is an .EXE file it will extract itself to where you tell it to. Then right click on the desktop and select properties and settings and advanced (if you have that choice) then adapter then change and then update drivers. When it asks if your hardware came with an installation disk choose install from a spicific location then direct it to the files you just unzipped or unpacked. EG, C:\TEMP\XXX X being the place that the files are in. The browse button can find this location to. If it cannot find the file it needs to update the driver then the wrong driver files are there. You might have to go back to that site and try another that are for win98se or what ever your operating system is. You should be able to run XP on that pc ok if it has at least 128meg of ram in it. I think josh1 said you have 255 on there so that will be ok. But then if it is a 233mhz processor there might be a slow down. Persist with win98. It was and is still a very good os.

When I try to download those driver it unpacks them to my desktop and I have about 20 to 30 new icons on my desktop. I must not know how to download them correctly. I have reinstalled win98 on the computer. I can get a copy of Windows 2000 professional or Windows 2000 server from work. Would either one of them be worth putting on here? Like I said before everything works now execept the display.

Do you know haw to reinstall Windows Me? Or would you like to install Windows 98? This will not fix the display problem, but it will help in getting rid of the service error, and then enable us to download the driver. Or what you could do, if you have another computer, download it form the other computer save it to a disk, and then copy it to the other computer.

The pixels were messed up when I installed Me and Me didn't correct it so I went back to what was on the computer which was Windows98 Se. Windows 98 2nd edition is what was originally on the machine. I installed Me thinking it would correct the problem..

How did you uninstall it? Did you use the format command? I believe if the particular method for uninstalling Windows Me, was not used, then that may be a problem.

Okay, some questions for you to help fix the problem. Is MSN your ISP? Do you know what Operating System was on your computer before Me?

Okay now what I wanted to look at was the RAM count, the specifications for that computer is 384 Max. Now you have 255, I just wanted to know that if you had more then the Max, then I could tell right away that, this is not the right one, but there is a possibility that this might be the one. Now you said you had a 733 MHz, and the one I am looking at it is a 233MHz and it says it is not upgradeable, so I am unsure about that one. What we can do, is go ahead and download the drivers I told you, unzip them and see if they work, if they are the wrong ones, then nothing will get broke, it just won’t work or your colors will still be messed up. If that does not work, then there is another thing I would like to try.

Okay, lets see if this is the same or not. Go to start-settings-control panel, then go to system, open it up, you should see at the bottom of that box where it says Computer, I need all that information, tell me everything and anything that is listed under computer. Your welcome for the help, no problem. I just where it said the system you cannot upgrade it the CPU, so it might not be yours. But I still need you to check on the system as I told you before, so when you have that info, let us know.

Okay, maybe the profile Aida32 reads to find out the information about your system is damaged, so for now lets put Aida on hold. I think I may have found your computer specifications, look here and see if that is yours. http://www.ciao.co.uk/Compaq_Deskpro_2000__5364946/TabId/4 and if so then, this is your video card S3 Trio64V2/GX, and here are the drivers for you http://www.video-drivers.com/drivers/88/88398.htm You need to register, to be able to download that file, it is free to register. Now when you download the file, you need to have an unzipper program to extract the files. Before you extract them, you will need to make a folder so that when you extract them, the files can go into that folder you just made, so it will be easier to find and maintain. Let mew know when you have downloaded them and extracted them, and I will then tell you how to install them.
