Glad to hear that the display problem has been fixed, how did you get it to work? Sure we can help with your sound card, Just go to the hardware section and post a new topic, and ask your question. The reason we have top have you post a new topic instead of helping you with that problem, is that if anyone else has the same problem as you are then they can do a search for it easily. Now as far as the Operating system, you will want to make sure that your computer can handle 2000. 200Megahertz for 2000 is slow, and I doubt you would want to run Windows 2000 on that. I think you be better off with Windows 98, as for Windows XP yes you could run XP on that, because I got Windows Xp Pro to run on a Pentium 166 with only 128MB or Ram, though it was very slow. Windows 98 would be your best bet. Concerning your sound card, right click my computer then go to properties and then device manager, look in that window and look for your sound card, do you see an exclamation mark by it? If so click it and tell us what the error message says. Remember to post anew topic in hardware about your sound card.

In regard to which OS to go to I recommend XP Pro. It's the most stabel one yet. I used 98SE for a while when I first got my PC. I then went to ME. But after many problems I migrated over to XP Pro. No more crashes, it's much more stable and easier to use.

The display trouble has been corrected. The computer is Compaq deskpro 2000 5200mmx 2100DOM. 200mhz processor,256mgs memory.
I still don't like Window Me and am looking for 2000 or 98 to install.

Can you help me with Soundcards? I try to play cd's and it says no card or its not working.

If you have another Windows operating system to install then that would be great, I think that you will find, you will have many problems, with Windows ME. If you have Windows 98, then I think you would prefer that. If you do not have another operating system, then we can work with what you have. The link that HH has provided will be a great tool in finding information about your hardware, and your computer. So click on the link, then download AIDA 32, and then post back with the name of the computer you have, and if the name of the video card is provided then let us know that as well. Let me ask you this, the computer that was given to you, was it given to you as it was when it was used, or was the system given to you in a clean state?

The thing is, is its an old computer with no sticker with the model number on it. I didn't know if there was a way to find out the model # on the system check or not. It may be shot. Besides the display probs it plays back cds like the chipmunks, too fast..It all happened once windows me was installed.

Try downloading and using AIDA 32. It'll tell you what you need to know about PC model and other things, like the drivers it has. AIDA 32 can be downloaded from :http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=183

Okay, the Compaq is the name of computer, but there are many Compaq PC’s in the world, so I don’t know which one you have, Intel is the name of the CPU you have, not video card. I need to know the model number, if you do not know the model number then let us know.

My guess is that the deskpro does not have the correct drivers. Did you try what I suggested to do, go to start-settings-control panel then display. Then once in display go to settings, and do you see where the area that says colors? See if you can change that. You most assuredly have a video card, because it you did not, then you will see nothing on the screen. The Compaq you have, could you tell us what model it is?

Sounds like you are missing your drivers. But lets try this, go to start-settings-control panel then display. Then once in display go to settings, and do you see where the area that says colors? See if you can change that, if you cannot then we will need some specifications on your computer, such as what kind do you have a dell, Compaq, gateway, or another kind we will need to know that. If you know what kind of video card you have then that would be great, however if you do not then that is okay, just let us know the type of computer you have.
