Well I use that product and I like it, no problems so far, but then again my system configuration may be different then yours, there are to many variables to work with. Because as you say you don’t like it, so if I say I like it but you do not then that makes no sense. I want you to get the most out of this software for you. One million people may have the same software and say it’s great but if you do not like it then it is not to you. I can tell you I don’t like Norton, never had even years ago I don't like them but that product seems to get good reviews, by Cnet. Now Trend Micro makes some good products.

I just bought Mcafee internet security 8.0, installed, and have now uninstalled it three times!!!!!! It makes my puter so slow, like it's not even running!!!!!! I think I'll take it back to Circuit City and tell them to keep it, unless somebody here feels that it is the BEST anti virus available. OPINIONS PLEASE?????

After you deleted the items from Hijack, did you reboot, and if so what did you get concerning McAfee? Run process explorer; are there any instances of McAfee running? What are the error messages you are getting or popups what do they say?

So I've restarted again, and though I didn't see McAfee in the 'add remove' programs list I went ahead and ran 'Hijack This' anyway which brought up about 5 things that had McAfee on them. I checked them all and deleted them and immediately started getting alerts from 'Startup Monitor' and from 'AdAware's Ad Watch'. I kept blocking them, about 30 times, and finally gave up and accepted. Is there anything else, short of reformatting, that will get McAfee off of my computer? I swear I'd rather get a virus than deal with this pesky program.
Thanks -Joe

Probably what happened is you had those programs installed when you had McAfee installed, and it mad a note of it. So when you uninstalled it those programs noticed that McAfee was gone and popped up a notification. You are welcome for the help

That worked great. Thanks again. Though after the restart in regular mode, AdWatch and Start Up Monitor both kept popping up with stuff that had to do with McAfee, I told them both to block everything, so I guess I'll see what happens after the next restart.

First try to uninstall in safe mode, go to safe mode by restarting the computer, press the F8 key about three seconds after the system restarts and before the Windows splash screen, go to safe mode then uninstall. If that does not work let us know.

Comcast internet offers Mcafee virus and firewall stuff for free, so I downloaded it thinking it would be nice to have the extra security though it has never told me anything I did't already know and has proved to be a real pain to deal with. So I've been trying to uninstall it along with all of its components, but when I click the uninstall button, nothing happens. Is there any other way to get rid of it?
Thanks -Joe
