Thanks Josh, but I think I'm over this one. I downloaded a different torrent program and it works fine!

Try to run the program in safe mode and see if you can open it without the error message in safe mode.

so, I now only have the newest version of bittorrent BT 4.1.1
The older version isn't on my computer and
isn't available for download.
So, this new version seems to either update or install the full program if no older version is found.
I reinstalled bittorrent in normal mode, after having uninstalled it in safe mode, as you previously suggsted.
The same problem still occurs.
I hope there are still some options open.
thanks

So lets go ahead and uninstall that program. You may need to uninstall it in safe mode. To do this restart the computer, and before the Windows splash screen (the logo) press the F8 key until you get to a menu then from that menu choose safe mode. Once in this mode try to uninstall it, after you do this, then restart normally. If you do not get to that menu after you restart the PC wait about two seconds then start to press F8.

Bittorrent

So, I uninstalled bt again after the new stuff detailed in my previous message. Halfway through the uninstall a note came up saying-- "not deleteing c:\programfiles\bittorrent because there are extra files or directories in it or it is in use."

BITTORRENT

Well, right after sending the last messege to you, bittorrent decided to open on its own. Yes, the program appeared in front of me in all its glory. So, I closed the program and clicked on the BT icon to reopen it. This brought up a window saying that an old version of bittorent is on my computer and that now it will upgrade to the newest verson. The window's heading was "bittorrent upgrade". this was the first time I had seen this screen. Before I couldn't get anything to come up on screen. So I cliked "upgrade", and an error messege came up saying -- "removing old bit torrent exe files failed. You must quit bit torrent and uninstall it before installing the new version."

When I use windows to unistall bittorrent, I can only find the new version listed under the uninstallable program pulldown. How can I find and delete/uninstall files that my computer doesn't recognise.

I can unistall the new version and reinstall it but this same problem will occur....

ILLustrator 10

I forgot that It can only run it with the date set back to 2001. I hadn't used Illustrator in a long time and had just re-installed it.

Operator error...sorry to waste your time.

I think I was stupid and ran the "updater" while the original version was running. Now, like I said, this "updater" was actually a new version of the whole program, so I assume virtual wires were crossed in the process. So, after that, only the new version was accessible because of the file overwriting that undoubtibly occured. I uninstalled the program through windows. While there where no error messeges or prompts about leaving shared files, there was an empty folder labled "bittorrent" left on the drive.

I have uninstalled two more times and downloaded the program again each time before installing. ?!!?

Glad to hear that the problem has been fixed, how did you fix that problem? So you have multiple instances of this program opening and running? How did you go about uninstalling the program? Would you like to get rid of this program for good? You are welcome for the help.

Thanks Josh, I found the solution!

ANother Question. I downloaded the bittorrent updated version 4.4 and ran the setup thinking it was just an up-dater. However it was the whole program again. So, I uninstalled both versions as best I could. Now after re-installing the new verson, I can't get the program to show up when I try to run it. I find multiples of the program when I do the CTR+ALT+DEL thing. I assume there are some extra files or files that haven't been overwritten properly.
so, is there a good (free) program that can help me overcome the problem.
Or do you have any other suggested fixes?
thanks.

Adobe Illustrator 10 has worked on my computer fine for some time. Now, when I try and run the program, a window appears saying--"Adobe Illustrator can't run".

I uninstalled the program, and then re-installed it. The same problem still occurs.

What up with that?
