Never mind. The accursed thing DIED before I could find what I needed. Lesson learned? NEVER buy a computer without the manufacturer's system disk(s). IP: Logged |

Here is a link to the exact instructions from them on how this is done using "any" Win98 disk. http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/armada/us/download/8103.html IP: Logged |

The only place I could think of is Compaq, contact them and then tell them you need a restore disk for that model. I know that is not much help and that sounds like an older model, they might not be able to do that. Have you thought about buying Windows 98, and downloading all your drivers? What about taking the PC to a shop, maybe they could fix it for you. How did you obtain the laptop? Whoever sold this to you was supposed to provide you with this disk. ------------------ For every problem, there is a solution. Do you or anyone you know have *any* idea of any source at all for a fully functional copy of the dedicated W98 System Restore Disk for the Compaq Armada 7370DMT Laptop? I am at an impasse; the *only* reference I can find on the net to this particulat item is a post that I myself placed on this website concerning a problem / a number of problems I was having due to the *lack* of the aforementioned item. Now, *some* of the issues I'm faced with are, after a fashion, satisfactorily addressed by ROMPAQ (rolling eyes heavenward), but, several crucial files are either corrupt or missing, and can be found and/or restored *only* by using said AWOL disk, and simple, everyday, "not messing with system files/settings" operation "magically" generates a host of "gremlin-attacks:" The sound card "vanishes." The modem "breaks." Apparently sourceless (I did not do it!) Forced Hardware Configurations scramble system board com port assignments willy-nilly so that F1 must be pressed on every boot or restart. Dial-Up Connections vanish from the Dial-Up Networking folder. Email client account settings edit themselves. Any or most of these problems will suddenly cease to exist, evidently at the behest of Loki, who has obviously decided to become a divinely evil cybergeek that delights in plaguing hapless victims, seemingly with the intent of bringing into question the very sanity of the objects of his malificent attentions. Colorful hyperbole aside, without the truant System Restore Disk specifically made for this system, I wouldn't sell this thing to my worst enemy. I'm limping along as I save enough money for parts to cobble together a computer of my own devising. This is one of the worst examples of my own monumentally bad judgment in terms of penny-pinching. I don't know what *possessed* me to buy a computer without its required backup software! [This message has been edited by gremlinkurst (edited September 20, 2005).] IP: Logged |
