So AOL can connect fine, but not IE after 5 mins? How about if you plug it right into the computer and not with the router?

I am using an older Dell Dimension 8100 desktop computer that uses Windows ME for its operating system. Two months ago I installed BellSouth's Fast Access dsl on my newer computer, this computer is wired directly to the router, and a wireless card to my Dimension computer. Last week I started having problems connecting to Internet Explorer 6. When I do connect I can browse for around 5 minutes then I when I try to access a web page I get a white page that says "Page can not be displayed". I thought it might be my antivirus software so I uninstalled the software and tried to browse but I am still having the same problem. I can browse fine using the AOL browser. Can ANY please tell me what is wrong with this computer?
