Well the only things we did was uncheck some items from starting up, install or reinstall Direct X, and restarted many times. So maybe something in between did the trick, you are welcome for the help.

Alright lets try this, reboot the computer and after the BIOS screen, press the F8 until you get to a menu from that menu select safe mode, boot into safe mode and see if the error message happens. Do this at least 10 times and then let us know if you get the error message.

You also could just unplug the device when you are not using it, just make sure if it is a parallel or serial connection type to have the PC off before you do that.

Well....
7 startups & shutdowns without problems. 7th shutdown stuck with a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner.
I'll probably need to reload the Iomega Auto Backup at the end of this exercise. When the drive is in use it constantly tries to back-up!

Okay maybe I was not searching right. Do you have an NVIDA video card in your computer? If you don’t know then let us know that, you may have to update your drivers the latest version is 77.72 or you may have to upgrade to Direct X 9.0c

Alright now I don’t know if your doing this uncheck them all at one time, then reboot checking one item and then reboot check an item reboot then so on. The problem with it being so intermittent you may have to reboot multiple times so that you can find the cause of the problem.

msconfig > Iomega Auto Backuop Removed (again!).

Is that the complete error message and have you unchecked everything and then one by one check it back until the system crashes.

Try this, go to msconfig, go to start-run then type in msconfig then go to startup, then select selective startup, hit apply and ok. Reboot the machine and see any you have any problems. Use the selective startup until you no longer have the problems, or if you have any more problems then let us know.

Every 6 boot-ups or so the system stalls at the Windows Me screen. Reboot, Safe Mode, Restart solves the problem... but it is a trifle anoying! Thanks.
