It should be in control panel-system-advanced, and you can check a box that says disable restore, hit apply and ok.

I only seem to have "Create a Restore Point" or "Restore". How do I disable it?

Have you tried to disable system restore, if you do this then you will loose all restore points, but maybe it will help you fix the problem.

What if you right click the file can you look at the properties is there an advanced view? If you were to delete them put them in the recycle bin, ands if something should happen restore them from the recycle bin.

The "read-only" and "hidden" bits are not set. Only the "archive" bit is set in almost all cases. A few files have nothing set. The files can be read by my WP software - more or less - and do not contain anything significant that I can see. Might I have some "techie" details as to how to proceed further as regards deleting them?

If you can open up that folder then you can delete them yourself. You might need to uncheck hidden and system folders and files as well.

I really don’t know if you need those or not, just delete them and make sure they go in the recycle bin, and if you have any problems after that then just restore those files.

Will study in detail but they seem to be bug fixes for System Restore. I'm not bothered about it I just want to free up the space occupied but all the temp. files.

Windows Me, the reason they came out with system restore for Me is that Microsoft knew people would have to use it a lot. Lets try and boot into safe mode and delete the temporary files, to boot into safe mode, restart the PC as soon as it reboots press F8 until you get to a menu then select safe mode. Try and delete the files and reboot normally and see if it works.

Thanks. I've read the M article - astounded that they could release a product with all these bugs. No wonder restore never worked on this machine. Anyhow all I want to do is delete these temporary files. I "Select all" and it eventually managed to select the 3 or so Gigabytes then..... when I go to delete...
"Access Denied" for each and every file. I think I need to reset some bits or other.....

Thanks for pointing out where system restore is located in Windows Me. Now when do you get the access denied error message? You may have to disable system restore, if you disable system restore you swill loose all of your restore points. Have you tried a system restore is safe mode? To boot into safe mode reboot the PC then press F8 right after the machine restarts, but before you see the Windows Me splash screen. Let us know if this helps you.

On my 12 Gig disk 2.3 Gig are occupied by temporary files in System Restore. Twice I have attempted to use System Restore without success. Are there any objections to my simply deleting these temporary files?
