Okay lets go to start-settings-control-panel-add remove hardware. Click next, windows will search for new hardware, even if it finds your USB modem, click the radio button the device is not in the list. Then the next window select no you want to pick the hardware to install. Then click other devices, then another window should open and then click have disk. Now another window will open up, you will need to know where the modem drivers are on that CD, for your modem, you most likely need to look for an INI file or CAB file. It is rather difficult for me to explain where the drivers are on that disk, being that I do not have the disk in front of me. What that means for you, is that you need to browse through every folder on that disk until you find the modem file I know that can be rather difficult if you do not know what to look for. If you have MSNIM, we can chat if you would like too, so I can help you more.

Okay so it will not locate the drivers on the disk? We may have to walk you through the add new hardware wizard, what the AOL tech said may be true, only if the drivers were not made for Me.

Hi,

Once the disk is inserted, it goes through the easy install procedure. After the USB lead is connected from the modem into the USB port, my computer detects new hardware. We've clicked on the automatic locate new hardware, that's when the problem starts. It just won't locate the installed drivers. Even if you put the drivers name in the box. I recall that the AOL technician blames Windows ME and that my computer despite having all the latest Windows update, may have not been ready for the new drivers?

Hi Josh,

Yes the easy install disk, does include the drivers. But they download, but will not engage/install, hence no broadband. I don't know why they want me to reformat it. Any ideas?

Regards

I am going to merge this topic onto your other one in Windows Me, because we are dealing with the same thing, it makes it easier for others to follow.

Thanks for your reply. I am using AOL 9. The modem is a BT Voyager 105. The modem is new, all is connected. But the drivers just won't engage/install onto my computer Windows ME?

Thanks for your helpful advice, now I am no closer to resolving this matter. But no doubt a magic wand cannot be waved everytime. 'But the less said the better'

Re: AOL.
As anyone else had problems installing the new broadband drivers from AOL? Since 07/04/05. I have been unable to connect AOL UK Broadband and have spent 12 hours with various AOKL technicians trying to rectify the problem! AOL say it must be a problem with my software, but everything was fine till I tried to download the new drivers? Aggh!

Well if you do not have the Windows ME CD-ROM with the OEM number then you cannot reinstall ME unless you purchase one. I am unsure of what the problem is, all I know is that the modem drivers will not install. Why AOL told you to reformat, I have no idea. So the easy install disk, does it contain the drivers for the modem?

I am using AOL 9. And was requested to install new drivers for my modem. But during the download process, they did not download completely. Since then I have been unable to connect to broadbdand. I have been sent a new modem BT Voyager 105 with an easy install disk. Despite all the best efforts of AOL technicians, they have been unable to rectify the problem. So the drivers just won't engage/install onto my computer. They suggest that I back up all my data? Format my hard drive? And re-install Windows ME with a disk I can't find? Any easy solutions?
