Is the option to change the resolution, and amount of colors grayed out, have you tired a system restore?

Yes, I have already tried display properties and it has said my driver is the most up to date for my video card. I now feel I need to reformat by hard drive and reinstall my operating system as everything else I have tried has failed.

Mark,
Have you looked under display properties? What type of video card do you have? Have you installed the latest drivers for your video card?

I have a problem with my desktop. It appears as a grey background and does not have the proper colour resolution. Also, the screen resolution is too high. I am not able to change either. I would like to know how to return to my active desktop. I talked to someone today who said that he had a similar problem before and he had to get an IT specialist in to completely reinstall his system. He was able to use his computer for a few weeks but then it completely seized up on him. I am worried I have the same problem. Is there any way I can check on this?
