Thank you for your prompt reply. I started the process you outlined, but ran into a some problems. When I typed ART into the box in file types-new, a box popped ip with the following message: Extension is in use--Extension ART is already associated with File Type art file. Do you want to un-associate ART with art file and create a new File Type for it? yes/no That was my first problem. Then when I clicked on the View button for the XnView there was no "properties" on the menu. The is a "properties" on the menu when I click on the Edit button. But when I click on the properties, nothing happens. Lastly, I can't quite understand what you mean when you say "copy the line that is in Start in, with the exception of "and then paste that into the application used to perform action box. I hope you can figure out where I went wrong and help me to finish the procedure you suggested. Thanks again for your efforts in helping me solve this problem.

ART files are an AOL file format and AOL will view them, but if you don’t have AOL then that is a problem. So lets try this way, thou I don’t know it will work, open up my computer then go to tools-folder options, file types-new then in the box type ART then that box should go away find the ART that you just created then go to advanced-new then you will need to browse to the XN view executable. SO what you need to do is go the XN view icon, or where you go to start XNview then right click it and then go to properties then copy the line that is in Start in, with the exception of the “and then paste that into the application used to perform action box, then in the Action box, type Open, then hit ok, then hit ok again now try and open the file with XNveiw, see if that helps are not. You are welcome for the help

I downloaded Xn and tried the open the .artfiles through it, but it did not work. I still just get a box with a red X which does not respond when I try to click it open. The program works fine for openning the jpeg files I have, but does not open the .artfiles. Is there anything else I can try? Thank you for your assistance in trying to help me solve this problem.

I still cannot open the .art files I have with Internet Explorer. All that comes up is a box with a red X in it and when I click on the X to open it, the file does not open. Is there some other program I can use to open the files? Or is their another way of saving them as jpeg files? Thank you for trying to help me solve this problem.

I have tried to open the .artfiles with Internet Explorer but all that comes up is the little red X in the box in the corner of the page. When I click the red X it does not open. Even when I right click "Show Picture" it does not open. Is there something else I could try? Please remember I don't really understand "computerese" so I'd appreciate it if you could "walk me through" what I need to do step by step. Thank you for trying to help me with my problem. puterfix2

Have a look at this http://www.dwightblackburn.com/aol.htm You should also read this http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS06-022.mspx If you pull the file up in Internet Explorer you should be able to right clikc the image and then save the picture with a jpeg extension, let us know if you have any problems.

I have a new hpPavilion (HPw19e) a1612n computer with Windows XP. I also have a lot of .art files which I cannot open. I tried to open them with the various programs (Explorer, Paint, etc.)available on my new computer, but none of them opened the files. I used to be able to open them on my old computer with Internet Explorer, but I believe that was the 5 edition and I have just recently downloaded the 7 edition through Windows Update, but they will not open. I have heard there is a way of opening .art files and then changing them to jpeg images. So my question is how can I open the .art files and then change them to jpeg images? Thank you for your attention to my problem.
