Before we do a firmware update have a look at this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060 if this does not help then you might want to try to place this drive on another channel such as a Secondary IDE, if you need help or already have done this then let us know. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by type of CD? I know it's CD-RW made by LG model number 8080B. IP: Logged |

Do you know the type of CD device you have? ------------------ Powered by Intelligent Computing Solutions. For every problem, there is a solution. Please give what you can to the Hurricane relief http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/citizenship/giving/relief.asp IP: Logged |

I don't have the firmware driver for this drive, which is my biggest issue. Is there a link you can suggest where I can find it? My PC does not restart when I'm trying to save documents the same way I was before. After following your instructions to uncheck the "automatically restart" in the startup and recovery settings. Well what I would suggest is that you either update the firmware, or your drive is bad. If you update your firmware and you experience a power loss then your drive is nonworkable. hello, I tried using Roxio and adding the file to project, but I get the following: "There are no supported recorders available. Make sure that yourrecorder is powered on and that all cables are properly connected. Also, make sure the latest version of the software is installed to ensure you have the latest drivers." I have tried the "save as" and saving to the CDRW disk but I get the "access denied" error. I might need the actual CD-RW driver, which I don't know why the OS installs the CDR driver not the CDRW. I looked in the Driver File Details it lists the following C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys for the LG CD-RW CED-8080B properties. -JR IP: Logged |

Are you logged on as Administrator and what method are you using to burn the files? ------------------ Powered by Intelligent Computing Solutions. For every problem, there is a solution. I tried this and created a simple test .txt data file to save to the cdrw disk and I got the following error "You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission" -JR IP: Logged |

If the files are on the disk and you try to rename them, in windows explorer or other methods like that, you cannot do that. You cannot save the file using that method. If you go to control panel then device manager, then advanced, startup and recovery, settings then make sure that automatically restart is unchecked hit apply and okay, then try and burn the cd, does the system reboot? ------------------ Powered by Intelligent Computing Solutions. My CD-RW will not burn, if I try to change file names on a CDRW disk I get "access denied" error message and if I try (for example) editing a document and "save" new document on this CDRW my PC reboots. The OS sees and recognizes a CDRW and according to information is "working properly". I run Win XP SP 2, I do have Roxio v. 6 for burning cds installed, but if I use the windows or Roxio to burn I get the same result. This issue started when I formated the HD and upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP. I have tried uninstalling the CDRW and the DVD drives that are hooked up but upon rebooting the OS finds new hardware, installs drivers but same issue. I have also tried some registry edits but I have yet to find a solution. IP: Logged |
