Glad to hear that, well you can go here http://www.footslog.com/board/Archives/Archive-000003/HTML/20050327-16-000026.html download Adaware Spybot and MS antispyware and run them all deleting anything that may be found. Then you want to defrag your drive, open up my computer right click your drive icon then go to tools-then defrag. Also look for disk clean up in the same area as defrag is in. if you have anymore problems then let us know.

Ok, Josh, I figured it out. The Norton Go Back was enabled and after I restarted the computer and clicked the spacebar to get to the GoBack box, I disabled it...and voila.. it started up. I have now uninstalled Norton and will ask one more thing of you. How do I clean up my computer. After this and other incidents that always happen in the course of a computer's life, it has slowed down alot. I have cleared cookies, defragged, cleared history, cleared files on and off line. Now what can I do to get the computer to run at its optimum speed..(that it is able to considering what it is..!) Thank you.

Is “safe mode with networking support” on the same page that comes up for safe mode normal? Also, I meant to tell you that when the computer tries to come on or boot up, a little window comes up from norton. If I hit spacebar it stays up and offers the option of disbling go back(its on automatically), enabling some other item, repair c drive, and return the computer to the last time it worked fine.. Should I try disabling go back? I only tried telling it to go back to last time it worked fine and to repair c drive and none worked. Of course, I had just intalled it so it could not GoBack too far. A matter of a half hour at best. I will go try disabling goback and then running the .exe.

I think that if you return Norton and get something else you will find out that you made a better choice. You might want to look at MacAfee, or Trend Micro Internet Security. Okay that exe should work; I just wanted to make sure that you were not downloading any kind of exe from an unknown place that would mess your PC up. Go here for more info on the return policy and what you need to do http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/sat2/ec_main.entry11?sp=10342&pn=4&xid=49997
Let us know if this helps you or if you need anymore help. You are welcome for the help.

How old is that program you bought, and you purchased it off the Internet? Do you have all the necessary information such as your proof of purchase? Let me know and I will see if I can find any info on their return policy. Yes, you can get on the Internet in safe mode; you just have to make sure you go to “safe mode with networking support”. And before you download an exe file where is the exe file located at on the Internet? Could you please let us know the web address that says it will remove Norton if you download an exe? Don’t download the exe give us the address first.

Ok Josh. Thanks. I will make a cd of the program that site suggests using if you can not remove Norton using add/remove. Since it is not able to boot up in normal mode, I am only able to open in safe mode and it does not seem to want to let me remove Norton in safe mode. There is an exe that says it removes norton if add/remove does not work. Lets hope it will do so in safe mode. By the way, do you know if i can get on the internet in safe mode and download that .exe? Thanks for responding to my help request.

It is for 2004 but try it anyway and see if that works

I would recommend that you use something other then Norton, for some reason there are many problems when Norton is installed. When you say you downloaded Norton where did you download the product? Have you tried a system restore in windows XP? Uninstall Norton via add remove programs in control panel then do a system restore http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx

I downloaded and installed Norton System Works on a Dell w/ XP. It went to restart and came up with a message saying fatal error...I can not remember exactly now but upon restarting it, the Norton GoBack etc. came up and said hit spacebar to repair. It showed a window allowing me to disable goback etc., or repair. I clicked repair disk and it still wont start up. The computer had norton 2002 on it and i uninstalled it but i dont think it took out the live update and one other before doing so. I also came to find out another antivirus was on the computer and active as well. It was only firewall and antivirus. Sooo Help. now what do I do? I can get it to boot on safe mode. It asks me what type of safe mode I want to start it with. I chose safe mode but went in using the name of a user not the administrator. Then upon trying to uninstall norton thinking that would solve my problem and let me go back and uninstall everything viral, it says I can not uninstall in safe mode! Help. What can I do to fix this.
