Apologies guys/gals; I should have let you all know that I ended up re-formating the drive as it was getting too complicated to get that program running. This also got rid of many other problems.

Thanks for the assistance offered.

That is what I mean. I have tried several time to 'install optional windows component' from the CD. It goes through the process, says that the install was successful but that is not the case as it was not installed.

What do you mean “if it is not being installed from the CD” Do you mean MS Fax is not going to install from the CD?

If the fax service is not showing up in services, then I would do a reinstall over the top of windows. The add remove programs should have installed the fax, but if the fax service is not showing up, then the fax will not work.

No! Not a physical fax, it is the Microsoft fax printer which will not load so the program has nowhere to send the document for processing as a fax. Fax printer or fax service is not showing in services.

So is this an actually fax? With windows you can fax documents without a fax, do you have a fax machine? Have you looked in services to make sure it was not disabled?

The system will not install the fax printer so it cannot be accessed. If I try to send a doc from word the fax wizard will start but as there is no printer I cannot send. Likewise, it will not receive.

There are no error messages. I have the CD, I ran sfc\scannow and restored the necessary files. I used the CD to 'add features'. The setup process says it was successful but fax is still not present and if I go back to install the box for fax is unticked.

I have been trying for days to re-install microsoft fax service in Windows XP Pro SP2. The system tells me the install is successful but that is not the case. I did the sfc\scannow and it 'restored' the files it needed to. I dasable Norton Anti virus and Internet security and tried to reinstall from the cd. No luck. I tried from printers and fax, still no luck.
How could I get this programme running again?
Thanks.
