I tried that to no avail. Apparently, this is a known Linux (9.x) bug that under rare circumstances causes 'parted' to write a wrong partition table. Using 'fixmbr' or 'fixboot' will irretrievably (at least, irretrievably for me) destroy the partition table. Go here for a patch (sorry, german only): http://portal.suse.com/sdb/de/2004/05/fhassel_windows_not_booting91.html IP: Logged |

Did you delete the Linux partition recreate the deleted partition, format the partition as NTFS? Is the partition windows is on the primary partition? ------------------

I was running WinXP Home and SuSe Linux 9.0 on one HD. Trying to lose Linux, i wrote a new MBR using Win's recovery console ('fixmbr') to get rid of GRUB. After that, BIOS would load but then i'd be stuck with a black screen. I started the computer from the Win CD but it would not allow me to repair the current installation, and i was unwilling to reformat the whole HD. So i reinstalled Linux (and GRUB)... during installation, everything looked alright and Yast displayed what looked like a normal partition table. I now have Linux reinstalled, but the Windows partition is completely inaccesible: When i chose it from the boot menu, it will go to a black screen and i'm informed that it is "an unknown file system (0x7)". When i try to access it from Linux, i'm told that the "superblock" is damaged. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! IP: Logged |
