If the only password you are talking about is the Windows password then that is not an issue. Right click on the folders in question, left click "properties", left click the "security" tab, left click the "advanced" button, take ownership of the folder using that page, you will now have total access. I know that, but you are using a hard drive that accounts were setup in another computer, so as far as Windows sees the files on the old hard drive, just as that files. Can you right click the folder of individual file and then go to properties what are the properties of the folder, do they have any permission on them? Can you ask your wife for the password, windows most likely does the password somewhere on the hard drive, but most likely it is so encrypted that one would not be able to decipher it. ------------------

If you can view the files, then you should not be asked to enter a password as long as the file itself is not password protected, or if any NTFS permission were set up with that file or folder. ------------------

I do not know how and if you log into the account, because on the fired computer, the accounts were meant to be used with that hard drive, and I do not think you could associate the account information that was on the fired computer to the working one. Can you open the files in my computer; can you copy and paste the files that you want onto the working machine? What kind of files are we talking about, Office files, or what? ------------------

I need help removing files from a hard drive. I had two computers bothe running xp pro spk2, on motherboard on the newer on fried taking the processor with it, unfortunatly I have files important files on the hard drive from the dead computer, I have placed the hard drive in my othe machine and the folders are intact execpt when I try to open them I get a acsess denied message. I beliee this is because I had multiple user accounts on the dead machine and they were password protected. does any body know how I can acsess the files, either by some how logging into the old accounts, or some other method (I hav tried running the windows install that is on the hard drive from the dead computer but it fails to load (hardware differences) IP: Logged |
