Cmedia is onboard audio, or an actual sound card?

After the XP Professional loading screen with the scrolling blue bar running along the bottom, i flicks to a black screen like normal, but if i have the Cmedia drivers installed it takes a good couple of mins to load into the login screen, but if i uninstall the drivers it takes about 3 seconds. i have just done a complete reformat, so its nothing previously installed. i have my onboard audio turnoff in BIOS so it cant be that and as i mentioned above it is a " Clean " system, ive spent the last 2 days trying to fix it but ive run outta ideas
Plz Help
