Most registry values can show you that type of Information. Do you have a floppy boot disk anywhere? If not then go here http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm go to down to XP Quick Boot disk, make sure you read the read me then download the file. Use that disk to boot from, hopefully you can get to a command line, then from there you can run SFC, to see if that can help you any. To do all this, download the bootdisk, insert the disk into the drive, boot off the floppy disk, at the A:\change to C:\ then type SFC\scannow See if that helps any.

Would the CLSID registry probably hold information on what has been installed on the computer and such things like this? Or is it possible that this particular information is still on my hard drive somewhere?

That is the downside with a recovery CD, the only way to recover your data is to erase everything, and it will be as it was when it first came to you. That is just how recovery CD’s are. Now if we have a separate OEM Windows XP CD-ROM then maybe we could avoid having to delete everything.

I don't have a separate XP CD. Do you think I will need to reformat my computer? Won't that mean that I would have to basically start over again with my files and installations anyway?

BTW, do you think a reversion back to the way it was is possible at this point?

All you have is the recovery CD? Do you have a separate Windows XP CD? It may be necessary for you to have to reformat your hard drive.

I've tried to use the last known good thing but that still did not load windows past the blue windows loading screen.

The thingy is the user files and junk where I deleted my CLSID registry. This is the place I want to gain access to again.

I have used my Recovery CD and am able to use other places where I have installed windows XP, but I am still unable to use the place that I want to use.

BTW, right now I am not worried at all anymore about the viruses. I would definitally take those viruses any day to not having full access to my files at all. So I am willing at this point to do anything it takes to get my computer back to the way it was.

As soon as the computer boots up, can you press the f8 key top get to a menu, and from that menu choose last know good configuration? What is your previous user thing? Yea do not use system restore, you may get the viruses back.

Today I was deleting quite an annoying virus called rommrnb.exe and all the viruses that came with it when I decided that it would be just easier to delete my whole CLSID registry. OPPPS! Now, all I get when I turn on that part of my computer, I just get a blue screen with a windows logo on it that shows up right before you can actually do stuff in windows.

I have already used the recovery cd. I can barely use my computer with the files that I have installed with that. However, I can no longer use my previous user thing, I cannot even put that into safe mode to restore my precious previous registry, virus ridden though it may be.

Can someone PLEASE help me. I have Windows XP Professional. I cannot even go into safe mode. I still have all the files intacted, its just that none of them are installed and whenever I try to use them I usually get an error.
