How about safe mode will that work? If you can get into safe mode then try a system restore, if not then let us know. Do you have a Windows XP CD-ROM?

Thanks for the reply,
I have tried F8 and selected last known good configuration and I get the same result.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Try this, restart the computer, then when the computer is rebooting press the F8 key, you should get to a menu then from that menu choose last known good configuration. Let us know if that helps of not.

After running a norton antivirus scan which showed up some adware files on my system. I manually deleted the suggested registry files, but foolishly did not back them up. Now XP will boot as far as the blue windows XP Screen and Iam able to move the mouse cursor but i cannot log in.
Is there a way out of this, without the need to use the system recovery disk.
