When you says tries to reboot, does it reboot? And do you have the OEM Windows XP cd-rom or do you have a restore cd-rom that came with your gateway computer?

Thanks, I tried that already, when I try to go to safe mode the screen goes black, then the computer tries to reboot again. I tried "last known..." as well as the others listed there, same for all of them, screen goes black then it tries to reboot. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Try this, when you first turn the system on, press the f8 key until you get to a menu, now to do a restore try last known good configuration, if that does not work then do the same thing, but this time go into safe mode. Then once in safe mode, go to the control panel, then go to add remove programs, and then you will want to ask her what update she installed then uninstall it. I am sure that the restore function will work.

I have a Gateway computer with XP installed on it. Today, my daughter tried to boot it up after installing some type of update(she doen't know what type other than it was a Window's update). All the computer will do is come on, like it is going to boot up then it shuts down and restarts, over and over. I was thinking if I could get to the system restore I could set it back a day or two and see if that solved the problem but I do not know how to get into the programs the way it currently is. Any suggestions?? Thanks,
