You may want to try this as it worked in a similar post 1) All PCs on network shutdown ------------------

Ephinygrrl, has not replied back, so I am unable to determine if the problem was solved or not. For your question, go ahead and start a new topic, so it will be easier to follow. Did you try to do what was suggested to do in this topic? ------------------

Was Ephinygrrl's problem ever solved? I'm having the same problem on a Dell Dimension 4550. Can ping the NIC, but cannot ping the router. IP: Logged |

Did you try plugging this system into the router port that one of the working systems is using? IP: Logged |

If you look at the back of the NIC you should see two lights, make sure they are going on and off. Sounds to me that hardware wise it is working, and the router is working, but somewhere in the software side it is not working. I really could not tell you if a format will help or not at this point. ------------------

My linksys router is set up as my DHCP server. It grabs an IP address from my ISP and then I can either set it to have static addresses for my home network or use it as the DHCP server. I currently have it set as the DHCP server. I have one other desktop computer and two laptops running through this router without error. Do you think wiping the entire hard drive and starting over with a fresh Windows installation would make any difference? IP: Logged |

Do you know the router address? Have you tried that instead of the auto IP that id did? ------------------

I cannot ping anything from the computer that isn't recognizing my router. From my other networked computers, I can ping each machine except the one I'm having problems with. And when I try to get on the internet, the IE window displays and in the bottom left hand corner, the message "Detecting proxy settings" comes up, the progress indicator ticks up very slowly and then it will finish and I get "This page cannot be displayed" in the IE window. I checked the connection properties to see if there was maybe a proxy server set up, but there isn't. I've left the box "Let windows detect my settings" checked. Any other ideas? Thanks! IP: Logged |

Can you ping anything? And when you try to get on the net, nothing comes up? ------------------

I have an HP desktop computer. The NIC that came installed in it is (I think) a 3com Fast Etherlink Network card. I installed the WinXP Pro OS on the machine and connected it via a wired connection to my DSL router. Everything worked great, and I was able to get out to the internet. I had the system for about 6-8 months and decided I needed to run a system defrag. I ran the defrag program and it completed without any errors. I rebooted the machine and it restarted and logged back in. Once it came up to the desktop, I verified Device Manager had no errors with any hardware and I tried to get out to the internet. It wouldn't connect. My Local Area Connection says it's connected at 100Mbs, but when I click on the properties of that connection, I can see bytes of data being sent, but nothing is getting received. I checked the ipconfig and now instead of showing my router's address, it has an auto-configuration ip address. I've tried setting the ip to static and everything, but nothing I try makes any difference. I changed out network cables and network cards, but I get the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciate some help .Thanks, Jamie IP: Logged |
