Yes i got rid of the virus (Fatso worm via MSN messenger. Spybot prevented it getting into the registry and panda got rid of the virus). It turned off the sys restore but now i can't put it back on again.

Did you get rid of the virus? If not then do not use system restore, you need to delete the virus first, and you may have to delete any restore points made.

Something (a virus i had lately ?) has disabled system restore and removed the tab in the system folder so I can't swith it on again. I need to use group policies to do this but i have Home Edition and the Group Policy editor is not supported. How do I get out of this ?
