It could just be the video card sending a signal to the monitor, as it comes out of sleep mode. I don’t think that it is an indication that the monitor is about to fail.

Hi there. I am using Windows XP, and my monitor is a couple of years old at least. Lately, and only when I turn the monitor power on or it wakes up from a 'sleep', it will rapidly blink/flash brightly 3-5 times and then is normal the rest of the time. I was wondering if this is indicative of the monitor going out? I have made no recent changes to the computer, or hardware since this began. Thanks for any advice.
