Thanks Josh1 and Wedor! I`m glad I asked you. At least then, it`s safe to delete SOME of the unwanted items.
I appreciate your help!

If they are only install icons and the programs are not listed anywhere else with an uninstall option I would say it is perfectly safe to just delete the icons from your desktop.

Yes, it is in the registry, but there would be so many items to remove and it would be very hard to find out where in the registry they are. You could “find target” and delete that folder, and other folders associated with it, but the registry entries, and system files would still remain.

When I click the icon, there is no uninstall
listed, only an INSTALL.I suppose the setup facility is there ,but I don`t see a way to uninstall the setup things either .Would anything be on the registry, if it is not installed, that is would the setup things already be on the registry?
There is NO UNINSTALL Program in my Start Menu either.I know how to find the Add/Remove Programs thing, but these things are not listed there.
Maybe I just have to live with all this garbage?

Thank you Josh1 and Wedor, I`ll give your instructions a try, to rid my computer of these aggravations and let you know how it turns out.
(I knew the reason they did these things, was MONEY in their pockets, NOT the consumers.)

Too remove programs that are not listed in the add/remove programs section look for the uninstall program in the start menu program list.

These companies approach system builders and offer them a fee for putting their programs on the desktop and/or an additional fee for everyone who actually buys the program later.

This is why tons of useless programs are dumped on peoples desktops, I have been approached by a number of companies to do this on systems I sell. I always refuse but it makes my systems cost more to produce because I am not getting any money on the back side like they are, but at least my customers only get what they asked for.

I never understood why the sell computers with preloaded software, the people will never use. Anyway, it is not advisable to just delete the executable, because many of the others parts of the program including, registry and dll files will still remain, just taking of space on the computer. Look for those programs on the start menu, and if you find them, look for uninstall icon in the menu. Or if that does not work, right click the icon then go to find target, then look for the uninstall icon or an icon that says unwise, that should be the uninstall program. Let us know if that works for you.

Hi,
I have a new Compaq Presario computer that came with Windows XP.It came with some things which I do not want, as I will never use them. I know how to remove programs, but some things do not show up in the Add/Remove Programs section.

I want to remove these below, they are on my desktop, I want all parts of those of removed, not just the shortcuts on the desktop :
60 day Trial Office
America Online 9.0
Install Quicken
Install Game Channel
Get High Speed Intenet

Could I just DELETE these things without harming anything else? If not, where do I go to remove them otherwise safely?

Also, there are other things that ARE LISTED in the Add/Remove section, which I do not want either. How can I find out,if these things are essential to my system? I don`t want to remove something it needs.
Thanks !
Capriceus
