There might be a problem with that piece of RAM, go here, http://www.footslog.com/board/Forum19/HTML/000055.html and download the tool to check that piece of RAM. If it comes back with no errors then that RAM stick may have a compatibility issue with your board. Then we will need to know what type of computer you have, and if you know, what type of model motherboard you have, and the new ram type also. But the test will not work, if your computer cannot even boot with the new on in. If it does not then I need for you to answer my questions in my other reply. When you add new RAM, or a CPU the new hardware wizard will not pop up, RAM, CPU, and video are core components of the computer, and have to be installed and working for the computer to work. CPU to carry the instructions, RAM so that the devices can have memory to give to the CPU, and video to see things. So the add new hardware will not start when either of these items are change, with the exception of video.

I did just insert the new one by itself and tried to turn my comp back on but it made a beeping noise and wouldn't turn on. So I just took it out and put my original back in. I would think that it isn't detected because nothing like new hardware found starts when windows begins or nothing. I run Windows XP Home with service pack 2.

Alright, it the Ram detected during POST (when your computer 1st boots up?) What kind of computer do you have? Try this, Take the 512 stick, and place it in the RAM slot on the Motherboard by itself, to see if the system boots up, if it does or does not, then let us know.

My computer specs are AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 2.17Ghz, 448Mb RAM. Now heres my problem adding an extra 512DDR Ram I thought would be easy enough. I opened up my tower and wrote down the current 512 specs and ordered an extra one online. thinking i would just insert into the slot next to current one then turned on my computer expecting it to work miracles and NO. It doesnt detect anything only my original I swapped them around and everything but no luck. Please can anyone tell me what I have to do? Thank you
