This week has been a nightmare for me. I was performing a routine reformatting of my hard drive the other day. I do this every six month or so and have never had a problem. Well, I would clear the drive I had windows on, then create a new partition. Then when I tried to install Windows XP, it would be going through setup and all of a sudden a STOP message would come up on screen. This happened over and over every time I tried to reinstall. I had deleted Windows already so I was screwed at this point.
Last night, somehow I finally got XP to install after about 4 days of trying. It all goes fine, and then I'm on tinkering with my display settings. I try to change the resolution and up pops the OUT OF RANGE...PC DISPLAY SETTINGS CORRECT screen. I've seen this before and I just assumed after three seconds it would return me to my desktop (as it always had before.) NOPE! It just stays there. I unplug my computer to restart because I can't get back to my desktop, and its still there when I restart. I can't get rid of it.
I've got a Compaq if that helps at all.
Please help. This is driving me insane. I'm a student and I don't have the money to buy a new computer right now (although I do need one sooner or later.) I'm at the library now and I may come back later today to see if I've gotten any replies. Please help me with this. Thank you.
