Gadgit Junior Member	posted February 11, 2005 04:44 PM Ohh, nevermind, sorry. I managed to sort it, i made a new account to check if i had the same problem on that. I also unplugged my USB wireless lan adaptor to see if that made any difference. As soon as I rebooted the problem was solved. It now only takes the usual few seconds to get to the desktop. So if you havn't yet solved the problem, you might want to remove any wireless lan adaptors (if you have any)I geuss the problem could have been windows looking for wireless networks. IP: Logged
Gadgit Junior Member	posted February 11, 2005 04:03 PM That's interesting, i have exactly the same problem, takes forever to get from signing in to the desktop. If I open task manager while it 's loading I only have a few things already loaded. It then will suddenly finish as soon as it's loaded alg.exe. Wonder if this is of any help? IP: Logged

greg Member	posted January 20, 2005 03:10 AM I usually log on with the welcome screen but in this case, for testing purposes, I set it to login classic - it left me on a blank dark blue screen for about 4 1/2 mins and then went to desktop - still with that long unusability period. + its very tempramental, yesterday afte a cold boot it logged in perfectly well. strangely, the if i log out and log in again its all fast and like new... I'm thinking now its got something to do with corrupt drivers or something. It might even be something to do with the network for adsl and stuff - seeing as on of the svchost services is at full blast at startup. anyway, when it gets to "loading your preferences" in login, i can just press ctrl-alt-del and it will instantly get to desktop for the unusability period, so i know its not "HANG" hanging while its logging in. I have another problem too which is most likely totally unrelated but i'll post it in a new post. thx anyways. IP: Logged

Josh1 Administrator	posted January 12, 2005 01:48 PM Well we could see what is going on here, but go here http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml this is an excellent tool, its like task manager on steroids. So what you could do, is download this, then run it, and then go to file-save then save the file as a txt file. greg Member	posted January 12, 2005 07:21 AM Ok i booted into safe mode, and the problem is there but only for about 10-12 seconds. I also noticed, that once windows boots up to the login screen, if i leave it for about 3 minutes, i can login, and the unusability period is about the same as was in safe mode - 10 secs. I think its my drivers trying to load up, as in windows just zooms through bootup and THEN it loads the drivers....i'm not sure - but thats what it seems like. I uninstalled flashget too....no difference... greg IP: Logged

greg Member	posted January 05, 2005 06:42 AM I know because i set windows to enable verbose messages when starting up (from the registry). I got rid of the floppy drive problem, but there is still a long delay when loading windows after logging in.After it gets past the loading personal.... screen, the desktop shows with everythign normal, but it is unusable for about 1&1/2 minutes, in that time everything is laggy and slow, and the only thing i can do is look in the task manager (ctrl-alt-del). cpu usage is ~10% all of the time, and memory usage is normal at 190MB of 3853MB. note: the task bar and icons are there but the taskbar is unusable (when you hover your mouse over it it says its busy). one process of SVCHOST.exe seems to be using up more memory than it should during this unusability period. I'm thinking that its a network problem or something, but then again, i have just reformatted my computer (>.< ) I have also tried disablign all startup programs and non-microsoft services thruough msconfig, but the lag still stays there and so does the unusability period. There seems to be a new problem with my computer every day >.< :p thx, greg. btw no error messages, just extremely slow. and, at teh login screen, the hd light is always on, and after you click ok to login the lag is very noticeable. greg Member	posted January 04, 2005 03:52 AM Ok i solved that problem by reinstalling my nvidia driverrs ....but my new probelm is pretty old too...i've got the "it hangs on wlnotify.dll" syndrome, except its a bit better off. It seems to be looking in my floppy drive for something, because once the floppy light goes out everything goes back to normal, and THEN it gets laggy, and the taskbar gets frozen for about 1 minute after I login+get to the desktop. I'm sure its a service or something thats causing my floppy to flip out but i'm not sure which one so.... IP: Logged
greg Member	posted January 03, 2005 11:52 PM Hey everyone, after my fresh install and all that, after installing SP2, and after installing all my drivers + basic software (ie norton / winrar etc winamp) my computer has become extremely slow when booting up. It boots up ok until the loading screen with the blue progress bar, which now goes around 30-40 times yes THIRTY TO FOURTY F***N TIMES. There is a little bit of system (hd, cpu, memory) activity at the start for like 1-2 seconds, and then everythign goes inactive (according to bootvis) for aout 60-70 seconds, then resumes normally and goes straight the the login screen. This has been annoying the crap outta me for the last 3 days. According to bootvis, disk cache writing has been disabled - I think that if it were enabled it would go faster ( i really don't know ). I tried to set it on in the device manager, but all the disk writing options wer disabled. I have looked on other forums , but all relate to external Hard Drives, of which i don't have. BootVis works for one restart and then goes back to its normal slow self again. If anybody can be of any help please post a reply IP: Logged
