I am so sorry I forgot to write back. Actually I didn't get it working the correct way. I deleted all USB ports and tried several solutions from HP also. It appears that the driver would not load from the CD. So although it would install the scanner it would not install the printer. The CD is fine, and perhaps, now that I am thinking about it, I should have deleted the actual driver that was on the hard drive; not just uninstalled it. But anyway, I tried a few drivers that were there until I got one that made the "all in one" do all the things it is supposed to do.HP's latest response was to try the install in safe mode. My sister's response was, "now that it is working just leave it this way!!" Thanks for your help

Okay, just go to programs-accessories-system tools-system restore then you want to click on create a restore point. Then just go with the instructions to make the restore point. Yes, uninstall the USB root hub, and the controller (the one under it) and any others you may have). As you know USB is connected directly to the motherboard, so when you delete them windows will see that detect the USB controllers and install them back. If you have any problems let us know.

That sounds like a good plan except I only know how to make a restore for a registry and not the device manager. I am assuming that is what you mean. Also do you mean I should delete the USB root hub where it has the + sign so that all USB entries are removed? The printer is the only thing attached to a USB right now. And if you mean only the Root hub there are 3; two that are regular and one that says Extended (I think). Thanks again for your help.

If you delete the USB root hub it should reinstall but ifd you want make a restore point before you delete it and then if root hub is not there you can roll back with the restore point you made.

I did not delete the other USB entries which were at the bottom of the device manager list. There were about 5. At the moment I can't recall what they all said. 2 were Root hubs, 1 was an extended(?)root hub and the other two were something else. The one that I deleted was near the top of the list and recommended by HP to delete. It was a dot405 x?xsomething hub. I was afraid to delete all of the usbs.

The computer did find the printer as soon as it was connected by way of saying device found and starting to load but then when it showed the files loading, the line underneath the files (the line that fills in as the files are copied) never filled in. It was soon after that when it said that a thread exit or application request had occurred.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

Have you delete all of the entries with USB in Device Manager? Also after you have removed all the software and unplug the USB cable, and reboot and have the cable unplugged, then let windows load to the desktop and plug it back in, does windows detect new hardware?

I am the computer person in my family so when my sister's printer did not work I was called. She installed Olympus Digital camera software to her computer and since then the HP Multifunction 2110 printer did not work. I completely uninstalled the software for the camera, I uninstalled the software for the printer, I unconnected the USB cable and the printer from the the electric. I even finally removed the USB port that had been created for the printer. I shut down the computer and rebooted. I reinstalled everything and it goes smoothly until it is time for the printer to be connected (which is halfway through the installation) I attempted this installation no less than 5 times (trying to add as many steps as possible along the way; the USB port was on the final two tries)It gets to a point and then there is an error message. The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. can someone help? I have already tried the HP web site and their suggestion was to remove the USB port...which I did. HELP
