Yeap. The messages go by so quickly. The messages refer to sounds being played, programs being opened / closed, .dll files being used, etc. I'd love to get rid of them, but it's not a big thing.

I'm going to live with the messages pooping up as I logon or off. It's not worth the hassle trying to figure such a small matter out.

Okay lets try this we are going to stop services, first go to services in the Administrative tools-then go to

Net Logon--Service=Stop and Startup type=Manual
Routing and Remote Access--Service-Start and Startup type Manual
Smart Card--Service-Stopped and Startup type Manual

You can try these one at a time, if you were ever to put this computer on a network then you would need to change these settings. You may also have to disable the Group Policy, if you have the group policy enabled and you do need that running then I suggest you don't disable Group policy. How to disable Group Policy can be fond here http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1161/

When I go to MMC there is no Domain Controllers Organizational unit or any others referred to.

Have you applied the Group Policy on this machine? I think you will need to disable SMB, here is how you do this, (you will need to go to start-run then type mmc to get into the Microsoft Management Console)

"To temporarily work around the problem, you can disable SMB signing on servers that host resources for XP SP1 clients. To do so, you need to modify the Default Domain Controllers policy, a built-in policy that applies to all DCs. Open the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in. Right-click the Domain Controllers organizational unit (OU), and click Properties. Click the Group Policies tab, select the Default Domain Controllers Policy, then click Edit. Expand the keys and navigate to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options. Here, you will find four of Win2K’s SMB signing options, including Digitally sign client communication (always)

Digitally sign client communication (when possible)
Digitally sign server communication (always)
Digitally sign server communication (when possible)

A default DC installation enables the last option, "Digitally sign server communication (when possible)." You turn off SMB signing on a DC by disabling this feature. If the last option isn't enabled, check the settings for the other three options and disable every enabled SMB option. At this point, you can wait 5 minutes for the automatic Group Policy refresh cycle, or you can manually refresh the policy on each DC with the command secedit/refreshpolicy machine_policy/enforce. The Microsoft article "Network File Errors Occur After You Install Windows XP SP1" at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q331519 documents this workaround."
When you do enter the MMC and there are no snap in's then go to file-add remove snap in's and if that window is empty and you cannot add anything then let us know we will have to try something else.

You may need to disable the Terminal Service. To do this go into the Administration panel-services look for Terminal Services, then double click it and hit stop then for the startup type hit manual. See if that helps.

Hi all.

I have two PC's running XP. On one of the XP PC's I've recently had messages appear when the PC boots up saying something along the lines of "running wlnotify." On logoff I get messages saying "playing logoff sound" and "closing group machine policies." On the other XP PC I've had no such messages. Can someone explain why and if it's possible to get rid of the messages.
