The key phrase was "Retail Drive", almost, if not all Retail Drives come with transfer software. IP: Logged |

I believe that you can also use the files and settings transfer wizard to transfer your files and settings to the new drive. After you install your new Hard drive and set it up, make sure you have both drives in your computer and make sure you are booting up with your 10GB hard drive, go into windows, then start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-File and Transfer wizard then hit next and make sure you select old computer, then select other for the location, and then browse to a folder that you must create on your new drive to save the info to. Then you can select what you want to save and then the wizard will do the rest. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Trying to do this as cheaply as possible. "Ghost" is not a freebie, so I'll buy a drive whose manufacturer includes the needed utilities. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have bought many drives and they did not come with software. I have used a program called GHOST and it is the best thing since sliced bread. Sue. IP: Logged |

If you bought a retail drive it will come with software for that purpose. If you don't buy retail you can still usually download the software from the drive maker's website. [This message has been edited by Josh1 (edited September 27, 2003).] IP: Logged |

Hi all. I'm thinking of upgrading my Pc from a 10 Gb HDD to a much larger one, perhaps 40 or 60 Gb. Is there a way I can transfer all the files on my C:\ drive to the new HDD without having to reinstall everything? I'm running Windows XP Pro. ------------------ IP: Logged |
