Hey, your answer (the link you provided) did the trick! The problem was due to installing Roxio EZ CD creator, which has a conflict with XP, and had nothing to do with Internet Explorer. I've never put a question on a bulletin board before. What a wonderful resource! Thanks so much!

Hello everyone. Hoping someone can help with this. I have Windows XP Home edition, which came with Internet Explorer. I'm old-fashioned and prefer to use Netscape. I went to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and was able to un-click Internet Explorer to uninstall it. Restarted my laptop. Now, the laptop will not shut down. When I click shut-down, it automatically re-boots itself. The only way I can shut it off is to pull the battery! Tried re-installing IE, but that didn't solve the shut-down problem. Ideas to fix would be much appreciated!
