Try this, Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM, holding down the SHIFT key to prevent AutoPlay. Open the Command prompt and type:

Expand <CD-ROM_Drive>:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ %windir%\system32\dllcache\sndvol32.exe
Expand <CD-ROM_Drive>:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ %windir%\system32\sndvol32.exe
then do the steps you would do to add it to the notification area.

Hi all.

I'd like to add the "volume control icon" to the task bar on my g/f's PC. I've gone into the sound part of the control panel. But when I try to activate the "place volume icon on the task bar" it says the volume control program is not installed. I've tried going into the "add / remove programs" part and "add Windows / Remove Windows Components." But there is no indication for adding any sound related features. I'm running Windows XP Pro. Can anyone help?
