Well I checked my version, and it says, Windows Messenger 4.7 (4.7.0105) Perhaps it says MSN Messenger, because it was downloaded and not install directly from the OS, because Windows Messenger is integrated into the OS. Does that make sense?

I guess it's just me. The "About" screen still says "MSN Messenger." But it has all the functionality of Windows Messenger, so I'm going to use it.

If you disabled the Messenger service then you need to start that, so messenger will work correctly. Try this link for windows messenger 4.7 http://msn.com.com/3000-2150-10148261.html?tag=lst-2-2

On the info page for the download says it's "Windows Messenger." But after I download, install and start it up, the "about" info says "MSN Messenger."

You sure I think is the one for XP and only XP, when you try and download it what does it say? Look on the left of that page and you should see Windows Messenger.

That's the download for MSN Messenger 4.7. I'm running MSN Messenger 5.0 now, but would rather have Windows Messenger.

Hi all.

I've been trying to download Windows Messenger for XP. But everytime it downloads I get MSN Messenger. I know there is a difference between MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger. Any ideas how I can get Windows Messenger to download?
