This may become a little complicated, but what you may want to try to do, is take both drives off the cable and only have one drive plugged on that cable with(the one that does not currently work) only one drive to see if it works or not.

Well, I have 2 Cd drives and both of them went out at the same time. 1 of them opens, the other doesnt. I did check the power and it is pluged in inside the case.

If the drive will not even spin up or turn on, or open then it may mean that a power connector on back of the drive is loose or came off. You might want to take the cover off the PC, and look for your cd drive, and there should be a flat gray cable that is big, this is the data cable, make sure that is plugged in tight. Now you should see a smaller semi transparent plug that may have a P # on it this is the power plug, make sure this is plugged in all the way. Let us know if you have any problems.

Hello,

I recently noticed that my cd drives wont work. i go to my computer and my cd drives dont show up, and they were there yesterday. i put somethign in the drive and nothing will happen. it wont spin, or do anything. my other cd drive wont ever open. i just dont know what to do. i think it is a virus. please help me!! i am running windows 98, compaq presario.
