OK I'm back. I cannot run the trendmicro scan...it's not working. When I ran ad-aware it found about 9 possible brower hijackers, so I deleted those. In Spybot it found a backup file called Sti_Track.log...is that something that's a problem? I tried to delete it but it wouldn't let me..Sorry for such a hassle.

Okay do you use Messenger Plus? I once downloaded that program a couple of years ago and it had Spyware in it, so unless that program has changed, then that program still may Spyware in it. Sorry about that I was telling you to go to those tabs when I was in a different version so that is why you do not see any of those. I can see what control you need to delete but lets go to General, you should se settings then look for view objects. Then look for Trend Micro and once found hit delete and then yes. Close your browser and then try the Trend Micro scan again.

I'm not sure what you meant by "the first page of settings and view objects"...there's nothing that says settings. The tabs are General, Security, Privacy, content, connectings, programs, and advanced.

Alright I did not know the scanner did not support Windows 98. Okay post another Hijack this scan. And lets go ahead and delete the Trend Micro plug-in, so open up Internet Explorer then go to Tools-Internet Options- then on the first page go to settings, then view objects, these are the plug-ins. Now you have many of them so list the ones you have, if you see any that says Damaged go ahead and let us know what those are.

No:

Whoops. The scanner doesn’t work with your Web browser or operating system.

You need Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000 Server to use the scanner. You also need either Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, or MSN® 9.0.

Go here http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/home_homeoffice/tools.list.html look for the virus you have and then read then info on how to delete it. If that does not work, then go here http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm run the scan and it should delete the virus.

I've tried refreshing it a ton of times, nothing changes. How do I delete something on the mcAfee scan? There's not delete button or anything.

Also, I ran housecall again (I just wanted to see if it'd work, and it did). It found a worm, and I deleted that, but the only thing it couldn't delete was called ADW_SE.76169. It's under the greyware/spyware section, so I'm not sure if it's something bad or not. Also, I still cannot check my gmail or go on msn even after deleting these things. Is this just because I didn't restart?

The other scan picked up the virus yes, but I couldn't delete it. Or maybe I could and I didn't know? But I don't think I could. I'll try that and post the results.

Did the other scan pick the virus up? Run Hijack this in safe mode, to do that shutdown the machine and when you first boot up and before the windows 98 splash screen press the F8 key until you get to a menu from that menu choose safe mode and then try hijack this, then give us the results.

Yes the other scan worked...I'm not sure why but I believe we have a virus so I'm trying to get rid of it. Anyways, when I run 'Hijack This!' it runs, then turns off right away, so I can't fix anything. Also I cannot check my gmail or run MSN (it doesn't let me sign in).

It might have something to do with an Active X problem when it tries to sends the controls so that it is able to scan your PC, or it could be with Java. So what we could try to do to fix the problem is delete the active x control and when you reconnect to the Trend Micro website it should reinstall it. Try this scan and see if it works for you http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?affid=294

And you still have the problem even after you installed Java?

Right now I'm getting this message: an error occured while trying to transfer data from the Internet! Do you want Trend Micro HouseCall to try resending the required files?

After I click retry it just keeps popping up again...so I can't finish the scan. It's really annoying.

*I downloaded the Java stuff I need (I believe)*

I've having a problem running http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp <~ That thing. The online virus checker that you told me about a while ago when I was having problems.. I need to install or update my java settings or whatnot. What can I do? Because we think we have a virus on here...so yeah.
