Description:

I keep getting disconnected from my internet server when there is a period of inactivity.

I use an internet relay chat that connects through my regular internet provider (msn). when I am on this, my provider does not recognize this as activity and after a while, I get disconnected. can you help me?

you have been great about helping me before and I just want to say thank you.

The Answer

You are looking for a keep alive program.  These programs will query a URL or non existent URL which will reset your ISP's disconnect timer with very little data transmitted.

A good place to find these is http://www.winfiles.com/apps/98/keepalive.html.  A good share ware Keep Alive program is Connection Keeper.  Be sure to start it AFTER you connect to your ISP for it to work properly.

We apologize that it is taking so long for responses. We have moved locations and it has taken much more of our resources than we expected.
