Description:

I have just bought this computer from a friend. The company that he bought it from had installed a logo in the system properties window.

I like the idea of a graphic there but not some companies ad. Do you know how to change this logo? how could I go about installing a similar graphic on a different computer?

Thanks for the help.

The Answer

With your preloaded there are 2 files located in the Windows\System directory they are called OEMLOGO.BMP and OEMINFO.INI.  The OEMLOGO.BMP is the graphic you are interested in changing or removing.  If you make a new 16 bit bitmap, a white background color will be made transparent by Windows.  The OEMINFO.INI can be opened with a text editor and modified to your liking or removed.  This is a example of what the OEMINFO.INI could contain

[General]
Manufacturer=XYZ Computers Inc.
Model=XYZ 2001

[Support Information]
Line1="Technical Support: 1-888-555-5555"
Line2="Technical Support Fax: 1-800-555-5556"
Line3="E-Mail to: techsupport@xyz.com"
Line4="WWW page: http://www.xyz.com"
Line5=""
Line6="Technical Support is 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a week"
Line7=""

You may also want to check out this program.  It's only good for 10 days unless you register but it allows you to greatly customize Windows.  WinBoost 2000
