The problem:

My monitor keeps shutting off when I'm in the middle of something, and the only way that I can get it to come back on is by restarting my computer by pressing ctrl alt delete. This is getting very frustrating, and being computer illiterate, I do not know how to fix it. The computer can be on for hours when not in use, and the monitor will stay on. Then, when I'm using it, the monitor will shut off, then I'll restart it and a few minutes later it will happen again. HELP!!!!! Thanks

Solution:
You will need to disable your power management for you monitor which is probably causing the problems. Go to the Start Button -> Control Panel -> Power Management. Where it says 'Turn off monitor', change it to 'never' and click OK. Now click the Display icon under the Control Panel. Change your screen saver to a simple one like 'Flying through space'. I'm having you change your screen saver because if you are using a custom screensaver it could be causing problems. Now reboot your computer.
